Waitrose Chipping Sodbury
Clarkebond recently completed the Waitrose store at Chipping Sodbury for developer Chelverton Deeley Freed. The Foodstore forms part of a wider mixed-use development within a disused section of Barnhill quarry. The works were split into three packages comprising, Enabling works, Highways, and Foodstore. The enabling works included ground preparations for the main store and residential units and involved rock blasting, quarry soils stabilisation, and rock trenching.
The Highways works included a new roundabout and new access roads to the Foodstore and residential sites. The main Foodstore works also included car parking, a new pedestrian bridge over the River Frome, a fully equipped play area and a pedestrian link to the High Street. The BREEAM ‘Very Good’ store building is finished in local stone and Accoya timber cladding and has been sensitively designed to complement its Conservation Area context.
"The appearance of the store and how it successfully relates to its context is a real achievement and everyone should be rightly proud of the development." South Gloucestershire Planning Officer
