Thatchers Bonded Warehouse, Somerset

Clarkebond was appointed to provide a wide range of engineering services to Thatchers for the proposed development of a new bonded warehouse at their Myrtle Farm premises in Sandford in Somerset.

The Myrtle Farm site is currently home to the company’s main production and packaging facility and also the Thatchers Exhibition Orchard where over 458 different varieties of apples are grown. The new development provided a further 4500m2 of bonded warehouse space with undercover loading bays, additional parking for both cars and trailers and a warehouse yard.

Clarkebond provided a full range of pre-planning services. The proposal had to take account of a public footpath that crossed through site from the nearby Railway Inn to The Strawberry Line, a former railway line, now a cycle way, and a permissive path.

The new warehouse building is now connected to the existing Jubilee Building by a product bridge that passes at high level over the footpath to transport goods from one building to the other.
