One Victoria Street
One Victoria Street Bristol is 47,000 sq ft of refurbished and extended office accommodation with basement car parking.
Clarkebond provided structural engineering services on the project which is situated immediately adjacent to Bristol Bridge at the centre of the city.
The project had significant structural engineering challenges. The original 1980s concrete frame was stabilised and supported by a concrete stair and concrete lift core in the centre of the building. The building now has now been designed with a new concrete core on the outside of the building and all internal walls have been removed opening up the floor plates and providing views in 2 direction from each floor. To do this Clarkebond devised a complex sequence of temporary works to support the floor and provide lateral stability until completion of the new concrete core wall. The work involved a complex analysis of exiting foundations and structures to ensure that no area would be overloaded.
The construction solutions had to pay due due regard to proximity of the floating harbour along one elevation and the busy highway on two other sides.
Throughout the design process energy efficiency was considered a prerequistie and the building was rated BREEAM Excellent.
The development has been selected by the Construction Excellence organisation as a 'Demonstration Project' which is a live construction project that is innovating or applying an element of best practice that leads to step-change in project performances for the participating organisation.
