Meet our team
Name: Samuel Ihle
Job title: Principal Engineer (Civil Engineering)
When did you join Clarkebond?
I Joined the Bristol office in September 2012.
What does your job involve and what are the best bits?
My job involves all aspects of Civil Engineering, from early stages such as preparing fee proposals for new projects, meeting clients and design teams to formulate programmes and design principals, plus site visits. I also manage various projects from pre-planning all the way through to post-construction being heavily involved with the design of roads, drainage, plot levels and engineering, design co-ordination and overseeing other engineers and technicians to ensure that a project is delivered on time and in budget.
One of the best bits is that every day I learn something new, there are always new techniques, new products that make designing more efficient. Plus I get an exposure to a wide range of skill bases and disciplines that help me improve my understanding of how the whole process works. Another great part of my job is the team, everyone gets on great and works together well to help each other out.
How does the job fit with your lifestyle?
Fantastic! Whilst we do have our very busy periods there is a lot of emphasis on getting the work/life balance right. Flexible working means that I can leave a little earlier on days where I have other commitments in the evening, whereas if I want to work a bit extra that option is available too.
What opportunities do you have for personal development and career progression?
There are plenty of lunchtime seminars being organised to give us training on all sorts of subjects which help with CPD. The lunches included also help! Plus since joining Clarkebond I have been given the training and assistance I need to be appointed as a Principal Engineer, with more career progression and training since then.
What is the best thing about working for Clarkebond?
It is a friendly place to work, there is always plenty going on and the management makes a lot of effort to understand your personal needs. Plus there is a vast amount of experience to draw on and support to help your own career progression and help you do the best job you can.
