Dagenham Docks

Dagenham Docks on the north side of the river Thames was identified by the London Development Agency as a potential 'sustainable industrial park'; a strategically critical area of redevelopment to accommodate buisinesses relocated as part of the 2012 Olympics.

As design partners, Clarkebond was responsible for the £10m infrastructure improvements including extensive drainage and highway works, £2m off-site utility upgrading, overcoming the shortage of electricity supply, and the production of an initial proposal for the use of alternative energy sources.

The low quality ground conditions of the site - heavily contaminated as a result of past use and proximity to river deposits - determined the on-site treatment of construction arisings, reducing the need to export and import material with risk assessments securing a tax exemption for 50,000m3 relocating the arising to adjacent site as opposed to landfill.
