Torbay manufacturing unit has concrete start on rocky ground

Contractors have moved in to start excavation work and pouring concrete foundations prior to the construction of a new 65,000 sq ft manufacturing unit at Midas Developments’ Torbay Business Park, Paignton.

The new facility, being built by Midas Developments for occupation by Graphic Controls Ltd, is located on a site with some challenging ground conditions. The site slopes slightly and has different rock levels underground which means that some of the building’s foundations will be on rock and some on clay.

To ensure that the foundation designs were the most appropriate for the ground conditions, Clarkebond carried out a ground investigation which involved drilling bore holes at every foundation location to determine the rock depth.

Clarkebond have provided a range of services for the development including geotechnical site investigations, civil and structural design and tender design for the super structure, sub structure and drainage.  The steel frame, triple bay warehouse includes 7,500 sq ft of 2-storey office and ancillary areas, service yard and car park.
