Planning Applications at Record Levels
Engineers across all disciplines at Multidisciplinary Engineering Consultancy, Clarkebond, have seen an unprecedented rise in the number of planning applications for which they are being asked to provide pre-planning engineering services across the South West and Wales.
The applications are well over 100% up on an average month with a wide variety of schemes including residential developments, solar farms, commercial change of use and strategic plans for local authorities. Services being provided include flood risk assessments, noise, vibration and air quality surveys, drainage strategies, ground modelling, ground investigations, utilities and transportation assessments.
“We usually see a slight increase in June and July as clients rush to get applications in before the holiday season, but this is far more than we have ever seen before,” says Director Martin Hathaway. “It appears that with local planning authorities under pressure from the Government to play their part in stimulating growth and the changes to planning regulations, the authorities are approving record numbers of applications and developers are being encouraged to bring investments forward.”
A recent report issued by the Home Builders Federation (HBF) confirms the rise in planning activity in the residential sector, with the number of planning permissions for new homes in England reaching a six-year high in the second quarter of the year.
The trend seems set to continue at Clarkebond with a raft of applications in the pipeline for the months to come.
