Persistence pays! Planning now approved for Cheddar Homes
Following several years work and many plan revisions to address challenges to the application, a resolution to grant planning permission for 90 new homes in Cheddar, Somerset has been approved.
Clarkebond was appointed by Bloor Homes South West in spring 2013 to carry out ground investigations and a utilities report on the Cheddar site. Clarkebond subsequently provided detailed infrastructure planning services including plot levels, road design, drainage strategy, flood risk assessment and also advised on the masterplan to ensure the scheme’s viability.
Clarkebond infrastructure engineers overcame issues relating to a high water table and restricted discharge into the existing watercourse through the addition of a split level attenuation basin.
Following a previous deferral to secure amendments and additional information, Sedgemoor District Council resolved to grant permission, agreeing that the development was compliant with adopted local policies for the release of otherwise unallocated housing land outside of defined settlement boundaries. As well as high-quality new market housing, the scheme provides affordable housing, improvements to an adjacent recreational cycle route, and a significant quantity of new public open space.
Development on the site is expected to begin later in 2016, after the completion of the necessary S106 Agreement and discharge of relevant planning conditions.
