Meeting the challenges of residential development by keeping it in house - 14 sites, 2500 plots, one consultancy!
Noise, quarries, contamination, artesian water, running sand, protected species and underground springs are just some of the challenges that Clarkebond’s specialist residential development teams have faced on the 14 sites that they are currently working on in Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Devon, Dorset and Wiltshire for Bloor Homes South West.
From its offices in Bristol and Exeter, Clarkebond has been providing civil, structural, geotechnical, geo-environmental, flood risk assessment and transportation and project and construction management services on the schemes which are all currently at different stages of development. The 2500 units being developed range from large, detached, high end properties to affordable housing developments and bespoke houses.
“We can take a site right through from pre-acquisition to on-site construction”, says Max Thurgood, Project Director for residential development at Clarkebond. “With all the expertise under one roof, it means that we can provide a continuous, streamlined service with open lines of communication. This is essential on these complex, challenging sites and invaluable to our clients in achieving a good commercial result."
One such complex site is Barnhill Quarry in Chipping Sodbury, Bristol where Clarkebond’s extensive engineering expertise was required to address the challenges of filling a quarry, in places 32 metres deep, to create a level development platform of over 30,000m2 on which to build a new housing development.
