Landmark Broadmead building to get makeover and new occupiers

A planning application to refurbish and convert the former home of BHS in the centre of Broadmead, Bristol into two separate retail units with new facades has received approval from Bristol City Council.

Clarkebond are working for the retail developer and investor Hammerson on the scheme for tenants TK Maxx and Metro Bank. Clarkebond engineers provided a range of pre-planning services on the TK Maxx unit, including structural design, ground investigations required to inform the foundation designs, below ground drainage and preparation of the tender package for the construction works. Clarkebond will be novated to contractors Base Build Services for the duration of the construction of this unit and have been appointed as client advisors for the Metro Bank unit.

Clarkebond has significant experience in the retail sector and the conversion of this high profile 1960s building is one of a number of retail developments for which the company is currently providing engineering services, including the Arndale Centre, a £85m retail and leisure scheme in Eastbourne.
