Clarkebond team double win at Construction Excellence Awards
Clarkebond were delighted to have two of their projects recognised by award wins at the recent Construction Excellence Wales awards ceremony.
The Sustainability Award was won by the B&Q Eco Learning Store (pictured). This was a pioneering development with extremely challenging energy efficiency targets that really pushed the sustainability envelope; using a wide range of ‘green’ materials, design features and technologies, but also considering the end-of-life implications of the building. The development was previously winner of Property Week's Sustainability Achievement Award 2015. More:
The Award for Value went to Cyfarthfa Retail Park Redevelopment where rather than demolish the existing DIY store and garden centre and build new, which was the original plan, Clarkebond worked with the client to retain and reconfigure 80% of the existing buildings for retail units, including Next and M&S stores.
This approach achieved substantial savings for the client whilst achieving a high quality end product. The Next store was Winner of Best Out of Town Retailer, We Love Retail Awards 2016.
Clarkebond provided civil, structural and geo-environmental services on both developments.
Martin Hathaway, Clarkebond Director represented Clarkebond at the awards ceremony and stated “As technologies improve and standards rise it becomes harder to win these awards so we were absolutely thrilled to have our work recognised as being ‘Excellent’ by an experienced judging panel of our peers.”
The winners of the CEW awards will now go forward into the national Constructing Excellence awards in the autumn.
