Frome Medical Centre Opens

The new primary care centre on Frome showground adjacent to Frome Community Hospital opened on 27th December 2012.

The new building provides 4,500m2 serving the primary health care needs of Frome, and accommodating a local GP surgery, minor surgery suite and training/teaching facility. In addition the building provides a pharmacy, dentist and optician. The medical practice, one of the largest in the country, is designed to provide a series of spaces on a scale to provide a more intimate approach whilst still providing a wide range of services. The new building now completes the concept of Frome Health Park.

Clarke Bond were commissioned as civil, highway and structural engineers for the development advising and providing design to the site to manage the impact on the ‘public open space’ status of the site and develop a building that contributes to its environment positively in the design of a green, low carbon facility that integrates with its locality and inspires its users.  A Building Information Management (BIM) approach was undertaken on the project design which was featured as a “Best Practice In Steel” example in  New Steel Construction Magazine.
