Clarkebond project shortlisted for prestigious awards

The Research, Innovation, Learning and Development Centre (RILD) in Exeter, where cutting edge studies into diabetes are undertaken, has been shortlisted for two awards at the forthcoming Michelmores Western Morning News Property Awards 2014.

Clarkebond provided civil and structural engineering design for the £27.5m RILD centre which has been developed by The University of Exeter and the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust (RD&E), in partnership with the Peninsula Medical School (PMS) as a centre for excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate clinical education training and research. The new centre includes a medical research facility part-funded by the Wellcome Trust and the Wolfson Foundation.

“It’s a great boost for our design team to have independent recognition for the great work they do.” said Clarkebond Regional Director, Neil Marks (below).  “RILD is an iconic building with which we are proud to be associated.”   The centre has been shortlisted in both the Commercial Project of the Year with a Value Over £5million and The Building of the Year Awards categories.

The awards are the region's premier property competition, showcasing the very best in West Country property projects, buildings and firms.  Andrew Maynard of Michelmores chaired the judging panel which included Sir John Banham, former Chairman of Whitbread and a former Director General of the Confederation of British Industry.

The winners will be announced on May 8 2014 at an awards ceremony to be held at St Mellion Golf and Country Club in Saltash, Cornwall.
