InnovITS - Advance

A consortium comprising MIRA, innovITS and TRL has been formed to deliver the ITS Advance City Circuit on an existing proving ground at MIRA, Nuneaton, Warwickshire, developing the site into a major global centre for the industry. The new 'city' circuit will be used for testing future transport technologies for all types of vehicles including passenger cars, motorbikes, buses, coaches, trucks, military vehicles, construction machinery and farming machinery.

Clarkebond is commissioned as engineers for the development of the site which comprises a circuit of 4.5km, a network of roads at varying widths and features typically found on public highways such as roundabouts, parking areas, traffic islands, controlled intersections, pedestrian crossings, street furniture and lighting. The design includes sustainable surface water drainage systems including attenuation ponds, satisfying Environmental Agency policies.

In addition ducting is provided to key sites around the circuit and from the control facility (a proposed single storey structure housing monitoring and controlling equipment, briefing rooms and user facilities) allowing the routing of power and data cabling to be implemented at a later stage.

MIRA is one of the world's leading automative test and development organisations, innovITS, the UK centre of excellence in Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and technologies for sustainable mobility and TRL is the UK's Transport Research Laboratory.
