Capricorn Quay
The historical shipping nature of this site in Bristol, dockside and opposite the SS Great Britain, demanded extensive archaeological and environmental investigation. The works included the redevelopment of former ship repairs, including the retention of the remains of an eighteenth century dry dock, and analysis of the adjacent gas works.
Constraints were further affected by an existing highway, to the rear of the site, in a serious state of repair. The apartments are contained within two six-storey blocks constructed of reinforced concrete frame and structural steel roofs. The 'Hennebique' harbour structure was removed down to water level and replaced by a new footpath structure, opening the harbourside to the public.
